Dayton Ohio
Dayton, Ohio, is a great city but a great place
to get lost. So if you are planning on seeing their sites, and
getting back to your hotel without losing hours of time, have a
workable GPS system with you. If not, understand you have been
forewarned. Of course if you have to get lost, the best place to
wander around, although not aimlessly, will be at the Dayton
Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. Some of Ohio's places has been featured in
online games today as well.
Within this park you will find The Wright Cycle Company building,
Hoover Block, Huffman Prairie Flying Field, the original 1905 Right
Flyer III and the Paul Lawrence Dunbar State Memorial. Dunbar, as
well as the Wright brothers are honored at this park. Dayton was
the birthplace and the home of the Wright brothers.
The cycle shop is a puzzle at first, then you realize it is the
place where the Wright brothers carried on their bicycle business.
In 1990 it became a national historical landmark. The Wright
brothers were entrepreneurial spirited and had interests other than
bicycles and airplanes; they owned a printing shop. The Hoover
block is a part of history that attests to that part of their
ongoing adventures. It became a part of the park in 1988.
The Huffman Prairie Flying Field is where you learn more about the
fabulous Wright brother's flying experiments. There, lecturers and
guides explain the Wright brother's ways and means of building the
first airplane. The field became a part of the historical park in
1990. And after walking around trying to take it all in, but
anxious to see the actual flying thing that changed the course of
transportation, you finally get to the see the Wright Flyer III.
Wow. Dayton has not disappointed you and you plan on revisiting
again next year, or maybe the year after.
